“Changing Times, Changing Seasons – Welcome to the Sanctuary!”
Welcome to the new Pure Divine Love Newsletter…or rather, the first Sanctuary Newsletter. During the coming months the Pure Divine Love website and publishing arm will be transmuting. Not sure exactly what it will turn into, except that certain elements of the current website will be migrating to a brand-new site, with possibly a brand-new name. Transmuting or re-inventing ourselves is in keeping with the r-evolutionary times will live in. Creatively, we are becoming more individuated, while at the same time becoming more aware of the collective ‘us’. The format of the Newsletter will be like more like a news magazine, with multiple articles, outside links, video and audio clips.
We hope you’ll like the new look and new features, and we’d also ask for your patience through the changes. If there is anything you don’t like, or features/articles you’d like more of, then please let the Editor (me!) know by sending your feedback to archariel@yahoo.com.
So, pour yourself a cup o' warm cider, break out the nibbles, start a cracklin' fire, and enjoy the read. See you next month!

“Digital Deception”
I’ve just finished reading a book entitled “You Are Not a Gadget” by Jaron Lanier, and I highly recommend it. Yes, a real book. Not an e-book, or a Kindle book, or a downloadable .PDF book. A physical book made with physical paper, from physical trees (or recycled physical cardboard) and physical ink. Quaint, huh? It’s not exactly an enjoyable read, but it may be an important read. It’s about creativity, the Internet, social networking, and the question of personhood. Are we in charge of our technology, or is our technology now shaping us in ways we never imagined. And, is it healthy? Do those who are at the cutting edge of VR (virtual reality) and AI (artificial intelligence) sufficiently aware to be entrusted with the future of mankind? These are the sort of big questions the book poses, and, it was written by a Silicon Valley insider that has been at the forefront of the developing technological revolution known as the World Wide Web, and who is paradoxically one of its harshest critics.
Here are a couple of quotes to ponder on: “If you want to know what’s really going on in a society or ideology, follow the money. If money is flowing to advertising instead of musicians, journalists and artists, then society is more concerned with manipulation than truth or beauty. If content is worthless, then people will start to become empty-headed and contentless”, and “Humans are free. We can commit suicide for the benefit of a Singularity (Web 2.0). We can engineer our genes to better support an imaginary hive mind. We can make culture and journalism into second-rate activities and spend centuries remixing the detritus of the 1960’s and other eras before individual creativity went out of fashion. Or we can believe in ourselves. By chance, it might turn out we are real”, and finally “The deep meaning of personhood is being reduced to an illusion of bits.”
My recent personal experiences with social networking and my forays into designing websites have brought me to a spiritual and intellectual impasse. When I am spending time in nature, or conversing with someone else while in their physical presence, compared with the experience of the immediacy of online sound-bites or artificial landscapes of Facebook, I am becoming more and more aware of a feeling of discontentedness with the noosphere and the hive mind, the proposed Singularity of digital self-images. I feel less like a person than I used to!
Years ago in the heyday of my channeling work, Archangel Ariel described the Internet as the ‘outernet’, an artificial construct of the human neural net and the collective unconscious. A little while later, I met a well-known astrologer and spiritual teacher who had published many ‘new age’ books, and was dumbfounded to discover that she refused to engage with the World Wide Web. She had no email address, and relied on others to publish and update her website. You want to contact her? Send a piece of mail via the post! Her explanation was that the Web was completely 4th Dimensional, or of the Astral realm, and as such was polluted with distortions, dramas, and manipulative influences. In short, to dive into the hive mind without taking into account the risks of exposure, one could become enamoured with the sense of ‘we-ness’ and lose track of the real WWW, the higher-order spiritual reality of which we are all a part. Obviously, it is paradoxical that I am presenting this perspective (and my own!) via an instrument of the Internet – the ubiquitous e-zine newsletter. [Personally speaking, I’d enjoy this interaction more if we could all be sitting together enjoying a drink and chatting.]
It is interesting to look at the language of Cyberspace for the clues. We’re so adept at naming things for what they are, then ignoring the consequences. In the past, the word ‘web’ was applied to the technology of spiders, or to denote a trap of some kind. Now we assume it describes a social and spiritual mechanism that frees humanity from many perceived constraints and limits. Perhaps the promise of the Singularity is a betrayal, and we would do well to heed the warnings of someone like Jaron Lanier. Trust your instincts, develop your discernment and delve into your Self. I suppose what I’m favouring here is organic realism versus digital copies of realism. Even though we have become all too familiar with Matrix-like themes about the nature of ‘organic’ models in the multiverses and our infantile understandings about the nature of Consciousness, we would do well to appreciate a natural flesh and blood humanity versus a cloned cyber-copy. I have no love of being inserted into any virtual reality, where my sense of self is embedded in an avatar. I say this not because I am a hater of technology, but because I love, and a chip of silicon circuitry does not.
I encourage you to consider that the promise of the web could easily be turned into a tyranny of sorts. Reducing ourselves to some common digital denominator for the sake of group consciousness/consensus can become such a tyranny. Individuation of Consciousness is the anti-thesis to what the progenitors of Singularity envision, and I celebrate that our spiritual potential is worth elevating above hive mindedness. An current example would be the real people occupying Wall Street, versus Tweeting about it on the Net. The street and the coffee shop will be where the r-evolution is played out, not in cyberspace.

“Shine on Harvest Moon”
The transits and processes that I discussed briefly in the August Newsletter Update as focused on the continuing stressful square between Pluto and Uranus. Now that Pluto is in direct motion, and Uranus continues to retrograde away from Pluto’s influence, a decidedly different vibe is happening. For one, Pluto is coming into a harmonious aspect to Jupiter, and this is providing some much need relief from the squeezing tension of Uranus-Pluto. Relief in any form is welcome right now, and since we’ve passed the Vernal Equinox, and Autumn is well underway, the lessening of external light and the cooler, wetter weather calls for us to kindle a warmer inner glow to sustain us into the coming winter months. However, we’re still in a tight spot, astrologically-speaking, and I will describe how some of the energies can be utilized consciously.
The Function of Transits
Astrology is about inner and outer conditions as they pertain to life on this planet. We don’t have to get caught up in the perception that we are in any way at the mercy of the capriciousness of the archetypes that rule the planets and stars. In my experience the function of astrology is to illuminate the processes within and without, and since transits are happening all the time in the ‘now’, they help us to become more aligned to our true nature. Our birth chart is static-we carry it around with us all of our natural lives. Transits are the continual dance of the constellations and planets in relationship to time and the geosynchronous position of our planet and other planets in our system, plus the constellations in our galaxy. So, if there is a major life-changing event happening that I seek to get a better understanding about it (which usually occurs after the fact) I can find that there is (or was) a significant transit happening that affected my direct experience.
Transits are the externalization of inner processes, so in a way, our ‘patterns’ are being enacted in the outer world through them. What I learn from these experiences can be invaluable from the standpoint of personal healing and transmutation. I don’t have to repeat the pattern, or suffer needlessly, when I understand the source of the pattern and seek healing for the cause. Also, every challenging transit is balanced in each of our charts by a easy transit, so we don’t feel the full effects of any challenge without an ally, so to speak. By the way, as you may have gathered, transits affect societies, nations, movements, stock markets and virtually anything you can imagine-on Planet Earth. If you travel beyond our Solar System, these influences are not the same. Also, the way we are influenced is through subtle energy fields, electro-magnetism, and the radio wave emanations from the planets and stars themselves. Somehow, we’re all connected.
The Moon Cycles and Current Transits – October 2011
The Harvest Moon arrives October 12th at 2:06am UT/GMT (3:06am BST) and is at 18 degrees, 24 minutes of Aries. Aries key phrase is “I Am”, is ruled by Mars, its glyph is the Ram, and it is the sign of the warrior. This Full Moon is also opposing Saturn at 19 degrees of Libra, and as Saturn is a constraining influence, it may be activating any hidden stuff we me have about our relationships feeling restricted, or life a partner might be too controlling or domineering. Since the Moon is in Aries, tempers might flare! Likewise, this combination may present itself as volatility between antagonists on the international stage. Reactions to external control (Saturn-Pluto) may not be soft and fluffy!
Many folks may remember that this same Full Moon period, Oct 11th & 12th, is supposedly another high risk window as regards Comet Elenin. Since the last alignment of Elenin between the Earth and Sun on Sept.25th-29th passed without another major earthquake, then perhaps the danger has passed. Or, it’s a red herring. The next alignment is around Oct.26th, close to Carl Calleman’s predicted end of the Mayan Calendar and the 9th Wave. This one is when Comet Elenin is to pass across Earth’s orbit ahead of us, and then we’re supposed to pass through the tail of the comet around November 11th. Hmmm…
So, the New Moon falls on October 26th (coincidence?), and it is a powerful one, at 3 degrees Scorpio. Scorpionic energy is compelling, deep, emotional and sometimes a bit strange and sexy. With Halloween/All Souls Day so close, the mix is especially potent as the veils are quite thin. The other ingredient is that Pluto in Capricorn and Jupiter in Taurus (retrograde) are now in a perfect trine. If there are any Earth changes or climatic disturbances around this time, this is where I feel the trigger may come from. Jupiter in an Earth sign expands earth-oriented activities and energies, so Samhain festivals are going to be quite potent. On the other hand, Pluto in Cap is a contracting and transformative force, so it might get expressed through the Jupiter flow as a movement of earth or water, bodies and emotions. The Sun and Moon are opposing Jupiter as well, so this amplifies the energies too. In any case, the spooky factor of Scorpio (mystical dances with the dead, death and sexual overtones) are quite enhanced at this time. Practising Tantric sexual techniques whilst bobbing for apples anyone? Okay, candied apples then.
With November coming on, some folks are quite interested in the date 11-11-11. Interestingly enough, from a pure numerological perspective, the real 11-11-11 should have been observed in 2009 (2+0+0+9 = 11). Instead, everyone’s got their eye on this one because the last two digits of the year are 11. Did you know that the first one was in 1991 (that equals 20, doesn’t it?), so even though this is the 20th anniversary, I’d have to wonder if we’re just getting a bit to flustered about it all being another portal opportunity. Does the date make the meaning, or do we make the meaning? Well, astrologically, this date has very little to recommend it. It may be the astro-equivalent of a damp squib, but that’s just take on it. Have fun with it, and continue with your planned meditations and ceremonies.
Well, that’s all for now, and I’ll be watching the signs in the sky for more indicators and portents, and useful tips for navigating the changes we’re creating.
